Some ways to help you afford adoption:
- Adoption grants and adoption loans
- Non-recurring adoption expenses: Adoptive parents of special-needs children can apply for non-recurring adoption expenses to be covered by special subsidies to help with the cost of adoption.
- Military adoption benefits: Military families may be able to afford adoption costs with reimbursement from their military branch.
- Purchase of service: Purchase of service is an agreement between the child's and adoptive family's adoption agencies. Ask your adoption agency for more information regarding this service.
- Employer sponsored adoption benefits: More and more companies are offering adoption benefits to their adoptive parent employees. Check with your employer to see if this is an option.
- Adoption tax credit
- Fundraising efforts
- Foster-Care adoption: For more information see my blog entry on "Foster Care Adoption"
Remember, where there is a will, there's a way. Never let finances or the stress of adoption costs stop you from adopting.
